ประเภทของสื่อการสอน
เอ็ดการ์ เดล จำแนกประสบการณ์ทางการศึกษา เรียงลำดับจากประสบการณ์ที่เป็นรูปธรรมไปสู่ประสบการณ์ที่เป็นนามธรรม โดยยึดหลักว่า คนเราสามารถเข้าใจสิ่งที่เป็นรูปธรรมได้ดีและเร็วกว่าสิ่งที่เป็นนามธรรมซึ่งเรียกว่า "กรวยแห่งประสบการณ์"
โรเบิร์ต อี. ดี. ดีฟเฟอร์ แบ่งประเภทของสื่อการสอน ดังนี้วัสดุที่ไม่ต้องฉาย ได้แก่ รูปภาพ แผนภูมิ กราฟ ของจริง ของตัวอย่าง หุ่นจำลอง แผนที่ กระดาษสาธิต ลูกโลก กระดานชอล์ค กระดานนิเทศ กระดานแม่เหล็ก การแสดงบทบาท นิทรรศการ การสาธิต และการทดลองเป็นต้น วัสดุฉายและเครื่องฉาย ได้แก่ สไลด์ ฟิล์มสตริป ภาพโปร่งใส ภาพทึบ ภาพยนตร์ และเครื่องฉายต่าง ๆ เช่น เครื่องฉายภาพยนตร์ เครื่องฉายสไลด์ และฟิล์มสตริป เครื่องฉายกระจกภาพ เครื่องฉายภาพข้ามศีรษะ เครื่องฉายภาพทึบแสง เครื่องฉายภาพจุลทัศน์ เป็นต้น โสตวัสดุและเครื่องมือ ได้แก่ แผ่นเสียง เครื่องเล่นจานเสียง เทป เครื่องบันทึกเสียง เครื่องขยายเสียง และวิทยุ เป็นต้น
ศาสตราจารย์สำเภา วรางกูร ได้แบ่งประเภทและชนิดของสื่อการสอน ดังนี้

อุปกรณ์เทคโนโลยีแบบใหม่ต่างๆ (Modern Instructional Technology Devices) เช่น โทรทัศนศึกษา ห้องปฏิบัติการภาษา โปรแกรมเรียน (Programmed Learning) และอื่นๆ จากการศึกษาถึงความสำคัญ ตลอดจนการแบ่งประเภทและชนิดของสื่อการสอนข้างต้น ชี้ให้เห็นถึงความสัมพันธ์ของสื่อการสอนที่มีบทบาทในการทำให้การเรียนการสอนเป็นไปอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ
